A friend of mine who is an emcee/rapper that has a rap group called IL SQUAD wanted a website that represented them. The begining was quite simple. We searched all the other rap group related entertainment websites. We didn't want to do a all-flash site since the owner of the site didn't know html or flash and was going to be hard for him to update. So we went with a classic html which would be easier to update through his own html editing software. We looked at 2 dozen websites and after picking and choosing all the cool things of what we had seen from their website, we incorporated some of the concepts into our site with our own style. Once I created the front page (later we added a flash intro), the channel pages came next and then the content pages. These 3 template pages all had a similar look to them to keep the site style consistant. The black background was pretty much standard for a rap group plus, it' s a rap group and not a corporate site. I also added a touch of illustration to the backgrounds to give it life, instead of looking at something solid black.

Handing off the responsibilities to the owner to update didn't happen, instead the owner of the web site had me do the maintainence with a fee. The site received many accolades and respect within the rap community. The tags were done to a minimum since this was not a graffiti website, but a more rap related street style web site. The site took me about 2 weeks to build from concept to completion. I also converted many of the full songs to mp3 snippets for easy downloading. I also edited some of their videos and was involved in creating their media kit. They later had a product (album and mixtape) to sell and they opened a paypal account which we link the products from our site to the paypal credit card system for purchasing/e-commerce for the site.
